Thelma-Louise Fernandes is a workforce development consultant, labor leader, and journey level HVAC mechanic whose career bridges the worlds of hard hats and sound stages. Having started her professional journey as a production assistant, Thelma-Louise went on to build a twenty-year career in property management and the building trades, ultimately coming full circle to teach building and construction techniques specifically tailored for the film industry as well as capital construction projects across the 5 boroughs of NYC. Currently serving on the Executive Board for SMART Local 28 and as Lead Instructor for the Careers in Construction program at Rebuilding Together NYC. Francisca Garcia is a proud Dominican-American New Yorker, union ornamental ironworker, mother, content creator, and advocate for women. Working in a male-dominated industry has shaped her commitment to speaking up about representation, retention, equal opportunity, and the realities women face both in and outside the workplace. Francisca’s story and work have been featured in The Cut, bringing visibility to her journey as a New York City union ironworker, single mother, Dominican woman, and survivor who turned her experiences into purpose.
